Episode 4 of Typhoon Family focuses on Tae-Poong’s crisis management skills. In the last episode we saw that Tae-Poong was in utter dismay after Pyo Bak-Ho cheated him and lied about wanting to help him keep his father’s business running. The show is set in the 90s, and there’s a lot you can learn about South Korean trading from it. Specifically, this episode showed us the Busan trading market and how it used to look back in the day. I think it’s quite a fascinating show and I can already see the chemistry building between Joon-Ho and Min-Ha. Typhoon Family is a weekend show, but I have a feeling it’s going under the radar a bit. If you’re watching it, let us know what you think!! But, with that said, let’s dive straight into episode 4.
Spoiler Alert
What Happens With Pyo?
Typhoon Family episode 4 begins with Tae-Poong asking Mi-Seon to join him as a trader. She agrees to do so and immediately sees him in the role of CEO. Tae-Poong and Mi-Seon set up their business, and the first problem they need to deal with is what to do with the fabrics stolen by Pyo with the messed-up contract. Now, the kind truck driver from earlier has stored some of Tae-Poong’s fabrics because the day he kept them in the parking lot, he ran out of space. Tae-Poong has the brain of a businessman without even realizing it. He’s quick to notice that if they change the metric in which the fabrics are counted, they can fool Pyo into selling the fabric back to the Italians, like Typhoon Trading planned. If Pyo did that, he would be sending less than the actual amount of fabric that was purchased, which would not work according to the contract. Mi-Seon and Tae-Poong try to figure out who can be the guy who hates Tae-Poong and wouldn’t look suspicious in giving Pyo’s team the wrong information, which is when Ma-Jin shows up. They make him the scapegoat, and he hands over the fabrics to Pyo’s team, only for them to realize there’s some fabric missing.
This is when Tae-Poong and Mi-Seon step in to sell them the rest of the fabric. They triple the price, and though Hyun-Jun doesn’t want to give Tae-Poong a penny, his father realizes they have to if they need to make even one penny. He had even asked Tae-Poong to sell his dad’s company to him earlier, which he’s obviously not going to do. But Tae-Poong has already realized the man is after something in his dad’s business, but he’s not sure what it is just yet. So Tae-Poong’s plan worked, and to celebrate, he decides to travel to Busan, where a trader friend of his dad gave him an invite.
While Tae-Poong has won this battle, this guy isn’t going to leave him alone for long, especially if he continues to do business like this. Plus, he’s still looking for the precious thing Tae-Poong’s dad possibly left behind. In the meanwhile, things aren’t going great for Nam-Mo, who finds himself under pressure at his mom’s chicken shop. Not only is she not cut out for such a place, but she also leaves him on a busy day all by himself to fry chicken, just after he’s burnt himself because of her. Additionally, he didn’t make it through to the next round of the competition.
What Happens in Busan?
When the duo go to Busan, the woman who invited them immediately recognizes Tae-Poong. Mi-Seon thinks it was just something to be polite, but the woman is delighted to see them. While Mi-Seon learns the ropes from this woman, Tae-Poong goes off into the Busan trading scene to do some observation and ends up coming across a brand called “Shoe Pack.” This is no ordinary shoe, though; it’s specifically for workers because it doesn’t get damaged no matter what you do, even if you light it on fire. Without really thinking about it or discussing it with Mi-Seon, Tae-Poong decides to sign a contract with the factory. He even makes a visit to the factory, seeing how earnest everyone is in putting in hard work to make these well-crafted shoes. Also learning that young people are not that interested in the work; they’re not willing to join, making it mostly old people. But just because one thing has worked out for him doesn’t mean they all will.
At the end of episode 4 of Typhoon Family, Tae-Poong is excited to start something new and really sell those shoes, but when he gets home, his house has been auctioned off and his mom is just standing there confused. We watch as people barge into the house and step on the beautiful cake his mum got him specifically for his birthday. Honestly, his mum looks a bit too naive, and I don’t like how helpless she is, but I guess that’s what it was like back in the day? Anyway, she manages to get back a coat that was her last gift from her husband. Ultimately, Tae-Poong and his mom move to the office to stay overnight because there’s nowhere else they can go. Still, Tae-Poong is filled with hope and excited to see what’s coming next while Pyo keeps an eye on his every move, knowing he’s been thrown out of his home. This guy is not done with Tae-Poong, though he’s a much younger chap, well, literally the same age as his son.
