‘Uninvited’ Movie Ending Explained & Summary: What Does The Post-Credit Scene Suggest?

Published

Philippine mystery crime thriller Uninvited is the tale of a mother driven by vengeance. Lilia Capistrano was a single mother, and her life pretty much revolved around her daughter, Lily. They planned on traveling to Korea together, and Lily insisted her mother learn the language as well. Life was going great until, one day, Lily and her boyfriend, Tofy, disappeared. Their bodies were later found in a field. When Lilia discovered that Lily and Tofy were brutally tortured before they were murdered, she decided to seek revenge. Lilia didn’t have anyone to call family after her daughter’s demise, and she figured that she would rather risk her life to hunt down the men responsible for Lily’s death than do nothing about it.

Spoiler Alert

Who was responsible for Lily’s death?

Lilia and Tofy’s mother, Norma, grew closer to each other after losing their children. Norma decided to move to Canada to live with her extended family, but before she left, she informed Lilia that her police officer cousin had told her that a shady billionaire, Vega, was the one who’d killed their children. He took pride in raping teenage girls, and Lily was one of his many victims. Lily and Tofy were studying together at a cafe when one of Vega’s men, Jomar Maitim, noticed her. Vega’s gang later followed the couple to a dark alley and kidnapped them. Lily attempted to resist, but she eventually surrendered when she realized that there was no way out of the situation. Vega raped Lily and later ordered his men to kill her and Tofy. The police helped him cover his tracks, and he continued to satisfy his twisted desire. Vega kept mementos of his victims locked in his safe, and he often looked at them with a sense of pride.

Lilia had a list of Vega’s victims, and she soon learned that Tanya, one of the victims, had died by suicide. She reached out to Tanya’s father, Elmer, and he expressed his frustration over not being able to do anything to help his daughter. Lilia promised that she would seek revenge for all of Vega’s victims. When Lilia mentioned the names of Vega’s gang members, Elmer pointed out that she’d missed Jomar Maitem, the scouter. Lilia decided to put into motion her revenge plan, starting with Maitem. She ran her car over him, and before crushing him to death, she showed him a picture of her daughter and reminded him of his heinous crimes. Maitem begged Lilia to spare his life, stating that he was not as bad as the rest of the gang; she refused to listen to him. Lilia crushed Maitem to death, and she knew she’d have to take down the rest of the gang along with Vega immediately.

Why did Vega shoot Jigger Zulueta?

Lilia was Vega’s uninvited guest at his 55th birthday bash. She masqueraded as Eva Candelaria, one of the most prominent donors to Katrina’s (Vega’s wife) foundation. Lilia, at first, felt a little intimidated seeing the security at the party, but she decided to wing it and make it work. She didn’t take her gun with her, but she figured the dagger she was carrying would be enough to take down the men. Her first target at the party was Vega’s bodyguard, Celso Batac. She followed him out of the party as he headed to the cellar. She stabbed him from behind, and while he managed to grab his gun, Lilia successfully flung it away, and she stabbed him a couple more times in his abdomen. Before he bled to death, she showed him Lily’s picture and reminded him that he was paying the price of his wrongdoings. Lilia slit his throat and left him to bleed to death. Randall Ballesteros, a corrupt police officer, recognized Lilia at the party. He had noticed her following Celso, so he decided to check on him. When he saw Celso’s lifeless body, he realized his hunch was right, and he started searching for Lilia. Meanwhile, Vega noticed his wife, Katrina, missing from the party. He’d recently found out about Katrina’s affair with his handyman, Jigger Zulueta, and he was keeping a close watch on them. After Katrina returned to the party again, Vega decided to have a word with Jigger. He expressed how deeply saddened he was by Jigger’s conduct. The thought of them getting physically intimate while his birthday party was still going on bothered him. While Jigger pledged his allegiance to his boss and told him that he was loyal, Vega refused to trust him. He pulled out his gun and repeatedly shot him out of frustration.

Why did Lilia hesitate to kill Nicole?

When Randall noticed Lilia in the premises with a gun in her hand, he started to fire in her direction. Lilia got hit in her arm, but she didn’t give up. Randall mistakenly ended up shooting Mike, Nicole’s (Vega’s daughter) boyfriend. He was confused and didn’t know what to do, and Lilia realized it was the perfect time for her to strike. She shot him and started to follow Nicole. Nicole was already injured, and she couldn’t escape. Before killing her, Lilia disclosed that she was the mother of one of Vega’s victims. She believed that before she killed Vega, she thought it was equally important to punish the enablers around him. It was because of them that Vega never self-reflected and had, over the years, turned into a monstrous creature. Had Nicole or her mother protested or tried to find a way to stop him, then maybe the lives of his innocent victims would have been spared. But instead they relished his wealth and turned a blind eye to the crimes he committed. Nicole scoffed at Lilia’s allegations. She explained that, from the age of 7, her father had started touching her inappropriately. She didn’t even realize she was being abused, and when she did, there was no one to take her side and stand against Vega. Her mother didn’t care—Katrina had turned numb because she’d figured that was the only way she could cope with her husband’s nature. She searched for her own little escapes to experience some sense of free will. As expected, Nicole detested her father, and she was quite expressive about the way she felt. She wanted to run away from him, but she needed his financial support, so she continued to put up with the show. Lilia couldn’t pull the trigger on Nicole after finding out her secret. She too was Vega’s victim, and she had grown up believing that there was no escape from her father.

Unexpectedly, Vega showed up from behind with a gun in his hand, catching Lilia off-guard. He had heard the sound of gunshots, and before he killed Jigger, his loyal handyman had told him that he’d received information about Lilia trespassing at the party. Vega didn’t feel an ounce of guilt, even after knowing that she was the mother of one of his victims. He believed he had all the power in the world and he could do anything he wished. Vega instructed Nicole to grab the gun from Lilia’s hand, and she obliged. He further added that he killed Jigger after finding out about his affair with Katrina. He told Nicole that, from now on, Nicole was his only family, and they had to stick together through thick and thin. Vega pointed his gun at Lilia—he was extremely upset that Lilia had chosen to execute her entire operation on his birthday. He was a self-obsessed man who firmly believed he would outlive his father and grandfather (who died of cancer), especially since he hadn’t been diagnosed with cancer. He thought he was invincible, and he wanted to celebrate his special day, but nothing was going according to his plan. When Vega was about to shoot Lilia, Nicole stopped him, and stated that she wanted to be the one to pull the trigger. Vega was proud of Nicole, and he encouraged her to kill Lilia.

In Uninvited’s ending, Nicole ended up shooting her father, and Lilia pulled her dagger out and repeatedly stabbed him. She had been waiting for this day for a long, long time, and she finally felt justice was served.

What Does The Post-Credit Scene Suggest?

Nicole begged Lilia to run away before the cops arrived at the scene. As Lilia was about to leave the premises, she noticed the fireworks in the sky. She almost felt as if Lily was watching over her, and she was proud of her mother. She wished for her daughter’s spirit to be at peace and for her heavenly journey to finally begin. Lilia made it out of Vega’s house before the cops arrived at the scene. Even if the police figured out who was responsible and ended up apprehending Lilia, she would have no regrets. Since the system had failed to bring justice to her daughter and the rest of Vega’s victims, someone had to step in and do what was necessary. In the post-credit scene of Uninvited, Vega’s business rival, Colonel Red, stared at Vega’s corpse with a smile on his face. Vega had invited him to show off his wealth and success, but it ultimately backfired. Colonel Red had perhaps recognized Lilia at the party, but he chose not to interrupt the show that had just begun. He didn’t have to do anything; Vega’s evil deeds caught up with him in the end.
