After the immense popularity of the first season of Weak Hero, the streaming giant Netflix picked up the Wavve K-drama and renewed it for a second season, set to be released on April 25, 2025. A minute-long teaser for the second season has recently been released, based on which I want to discuss everything we can expect from Weak Hero Class 2 and try to connect a few dots with the season 1 ending. For those who haven’t seen the first season or want to refresh their memory, I have written a detailed breakdown in my previous article. And in this one, I am going to jump straight into my theories.
Spoiler Alert
Si-eun Still Remembers Su-ho
At the end of the first season, our main protagonist, Si-eun, was transferred to a new school in Yeongdeungpo named Eunjang High School, which, by the looks of it, seemed even worse than the previous Byuksan High School. The teachers themselves had been hitting the students on the head to discipline them, which ought to tell you a lot about the things Si-eun is going to face in this new school. In a way, the educators are themselves teaching that “violence is the answer to everything,” and students are indeed going to use these lessons in their teachers’ absence.
The trailer for Weak Hero Class 2 begins with Si-eun hitting a student on the head with a brick, and in the voice-over, he calls out to his best friend, Ahn Su-ho, the same lad who was brutally beaten in the previous season, to the point that he ended up in a coma, and Si-eun blamed himself for his tragedy. In the trailer, Si-eun tells Su-ho that he has gotten into another fight, and apologizes. In the previous school, Su-ho had asked his friend to avoid violence and stay away from trouble as much as possible. Su-ho knew that Si-eun had a tendency to lose control of himself when he got angry, and in such moments, he could go to any length, even kill a fellow student if someone didn’t stop him. This is the reason why Su-ho always stayed close to Si-eun as a guardian angel, but in this new school, there’s no one to protect Si-eun from his own anger.
Su-ho May Return
In season 1’s ending, Su-ho’s grandmother arrived from the village as soon as she was informed of her grandson’s injuries. Su-ho’s grandmother obviously didn’t have enough money for the expensive treatment, but things were taken care of after Beom-seok’s father, Assemblyman Oh Jin-won, offered to pay the bills because it was his own adopted son who was responsible for Su-ho’s condition. Si-eun often visited his best friend in the hospital while he was in a coma, but when he got busy with his transfer, he found out that Su-ho’s grandmother had left for their village with Su-ho. Si-eun tried to contact the old woman multiple times, but she wouldn’t respond to his texts or calls. I think Si-eun still remembers his friend from time to time, and I will not be surprised if Su-ho makes a grand return in the second season to save Si-eun when his life is in danger or when he feels overwhelmed by his troubles. Maybe Si-eun, along with his previous best friend and new friends, will face the threats at the new school and, this time around, manage to get a “happy ending.” Well, just some wishful thinking.
Si-eun Didn’t Kill Anyone
There’s a rumor about Si-eun making rounds in the new school. The students believe that the new transfer student, Si-eun, is a psychopath who killed some kid in his previous school. Well, that’s not true, but yes, the reason Si-eun was expelled from Byuksan High School was because he thrashed two of his fellow classmates, or bullies to be exact, with a fire extinguisher, because they were the ones responsible for Su-ho’s condition. He even thrashed his second-best friend, Beom-seok, the assemblyman’s son, in front of the whole class, which was the reason he was expelled. The assemblyman was one of the most influential people in town, and even though Si-eun managed to blackmail him with the video clip of his son where he was repeatedly kicking Su-ho on the head, the assemblyman did everything in his power to make sure that Si-eun didn’t get an admission to any decent school in the city. It could be possible that it was the assemblyman or his minions who circulated such a vicious rumor about Si-eun, or maybe they pinned the blame for Su-ho’s condition on Si-eun, where the former didn’t die but wasn’t in a better condition either. Whatever the case might be, Si-eun uses the rumor to his benefit and asks the students in the new school to stay away from him so he can concentrate on his studies like before and leave the cursed institution behind for college. But, as usual, things don’t go as planned, and Si-eun finds himself in another mess.
Si-eun Makes Good Friends
As the new session begins, Si-eun makes two new friends, who, for some reason, look extremely similar to the ones he had in the previous school. There’s this introverted and timid guy with glasses who looks like Beom-seok, and then there’s this extroverted guy always wearing hoodies like Su-ho. Initially, Si-eun tries to stay away from these folks and doesn’t want to make new friends again, as he knows the price he had to pay the previous time. He tries his best to stay alone but cannot put up that hard shell for longer. He understands how good it feels to have people around and therefore starts hanging out with the new lot, and this is when the real problem kicks in.
Si-eun Makes Worse Enemies
In season 1’s ending, on Si-eun’s first day in the new school, a backbencher named Kang Woo-yeong tried to bully him, just like his former nemesis, Jeon Young-bin, soon after which Si-eun once again picked up the pen, implying that he was going to stab holes in the bully standing in front of him. And yes, he did thrash him black and blue, though I believe the second season is not going to follow this incident, or maybe will just gloss over it, as the showmakers may need to invest a bit in the new characters before finally introducing the wrath of Si-eun to everyone. Or maybe after the incident, Woo-yeong and his goons will stay away from Si-eun, though it doesn’t make his new friends immune to the bullies. In the trailer, the glasses guy gets beaten by Woo-yeong, which I suppose is the moment when Si-eun steps in and politely asks Woo-yeong not to cross the line. But the bullies don’t listen, right? So yes, you already know what’s coming for Si-eun and his friends. The post-credit scene of the previous season suggested that Woo-yeong was a candidate of the Association, implying that he’s well-connected and is an important part of some crime syndicate. This means if Si-eun raises a hand against Woo-yeong, he’ll be dealing with a plethora of other gangsters coming after him. So let’s see how Si-eun gets out of the mess this time and if he manages to have a happy ending, unlike the previous season, where he ended up losing both his best friends.
