‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Episode 4 Recap: What To Expect In Part 2?

Published

The final episode of Wednesday season 2, part 1, is packed with exciting moments and delivers a shocking ending. Given that, for the time being, this is the end of the season, we have been left with a lot of questions, so we can be eager for when part 2 arrives. Episode 4 takes us to the heart of Willow Hill, where Wednesday has to find out about Lois. As usual, she’s a team worker despite her lack of social skills and uses the help of her uncle Fester, Agnes, Thing, and, of course, her bestie, Enid, who has been feeling left out for a while now. But even with a band of people ready to help on Wednesday, she’s still in grave danger, and her mom is certainly not going to be happy after what happened at the end of that episode. With that said, though, let’s jump straight into episode 4.

Spoiler Alert

What Happens With Goody’s Book?

Season 2, episode 4 begins with Hester finally making an appearance, and I bet I wasn’t the only one surprised by Wednesday’s wide smile at seeing her grandmother. Clearly there’s some disconnect here, because as wide as Wednesday’s smile is, Morticia seems mortified to see her mother. On the other side, there’s another reunion, and this one is more morbid than the first. Thornhill convinces Fairburn to let her meet Tyler, because she believes she’s the only one who can get through to him. Fairburn agrees, but the result is that Tyler transforms into the Hyde and nearly chokes his master to death right there. At the same time, Wednesday gets her grandmother to buy a cemetery so that she can find out who authorized the cremations of the victims in the obituaries she found at Galpin’s cabin. It seems they might be fake obituaries. At the same time, a one-eyed crow steals her evidence.

On her return to the dorm, Wednesday is met with Enid and Bruno having their lovey-dovey time before realizing that they’ve had a visitor all along, Agnes. She hands Wednesday her mail, and there’s a rejection from her publisher. But Wednesday doesn’t care; she’d rather not publish anything than change her own work. Later, Wednesday meets with Uncle Fester and asks him to get admitted to Willow Hill in order to get information about Lois. He’s eager as ever, but also mentions that Ophelia had been admitted there, but she’s been missing for 20 years according to Morticia, and nobody knows where she is at the moment. He also electrocutes an invisible Agnes, who Wednesday tells him is her new assistant, ex-stalker.

Fester goes to the same inn that Bianca’s mom is put up in and makes a huge mess so that he can get arrested and admitted to Willow Hill. Because of the mess he’s created, though, Bianca’s mom ends up being caught as a squatter and arrested by Sheriff Santiago. But Bianca is forced by Dort to stay at school because she needs to make invitations for the gala. She can’t even use her powers on him because he’s got an anti-siren thing on his person. Ajax decides to help her, though, and tells her they should both leave, while she siren-songs the two boys, Eugene and Pugsley, to stay back and finish the invitations.

At the same time, Hester meets her daughter and tells her to give Wednesday the book. Morticia refuses, because she doesn’t want her to end up like her missing sister. Hester was the one who admitted her daughter to Willow Hill despite Morticia telling her that she was not mentally unstable; she was exhausted, just like Wednesday. But ultimately, her mother didn’t listen. Now, Morticia puts Goody’s book in the fireplace to make sure she keeps her daughter safe. But Hester still helps Wednesday by giving her information from the cemetery. It seems the cremations were authorized by an Augustus Stonehearst.

What Does Fester Learn About Lois?

Now, Fester returns to Willow Hill in all his glory, and is reminded of his first time there as a child. He’s lobotomized but doesn’t seem to be affected at all, despite his brain looking like he swallowed Edward Scissorhands. Fester doesn’t waste any time in his investigation. Guess like uncle, like niece, because he’s eager to get answers, too. He meets Louise, the canteen lady. He gets two things out of her: one is that she can get him some answers, and the second is that they can make out in dark closets (I know, but it’s not creepy; she likes him too).

At school, Agnes tells Wednesday that Stonhearst was a “normie” doctor who ran Willow Hill. Enid feels left out because Agnes is always around Wednesday, but Wednesday counters her confrontation with the fact that she’s spending more time with the wolf pack and wants a fun year rather than a terrifying one. Their conversation is interrupted by a hooded person and the one-eyed crow yet again. Wednesday follows the person as Dort saves Thing from the grasp of the crow. But Thing still nearly dies from a fall, saved only by Enid’s speedy dive. But Wednesday’s not fast enough to catch the person and only gets their cloak. However, when she reaches the room, Fairburn is there to talk to Capri, because she’s going to do a music class at Willow Hill. Also, Bianca and Ajax notice Dort talking to somebody in a mysterious way. Dude’s definitely one of the bad guys.

At the same time, Thing finds Fester at Willow Hill and tells him to look for a Stonehearst. It seems the head of Willow Hill is now a patient because he had a psychiatric breakdown. But Fester gets some information from a talking parrot, a number: 51971. Wednesday makes a massive plan to sneak into Willow Hill. She’s going to get into Capri’s trunk so that she can make it inside without worry. Agnes will be the distraction, while Enid has to remain a lookout. It is quite important, because if something goes wrong, she needs to call the new sheriff immediately.

This plan works perfectly, and suddenly, Wednesday is freeing Fester from his shackles, while his new roommate, Slurp, is trying to eat her. But Wednesday doesn’t close the door before they leave, and Slurp breaks free, ready for some more brain-eating. While getting out, Wednesday and Thornhill come face-to-face for just a second, but there are more pressing matters at hand. While Capri plays a slow-burning rendition of Zombie by The Cranberries, Wednesday and Fester break into the room Gus showed him and learn that LOIS (Long-term Outcast Integration Study) was a secret program. They find all the people whose obituaries she found at Galpin’s cabin, but one person is unknown. Galpin was clearly afraid that Tyler would be forced into this program, which is why he decided to investigate.

As they’re doing so, the cloaked human shows up, and it’s not Fairburn, but Judi, the assistant, who is the Avian. Judi is Augustus’ daughter, and she was her dad’s successful experiment. Turns out they were normies who wanted the strengths of outcasts and decided to steal their powers and exploit them. Gus was successful with his daughter but not with himself. He wanted to be a DaVinci, but I’m still not sure what that means exactly. Fester frees all those inside the experiment room, and they immediately go after Judi, except the unknown. Wednesday refuses to leave her behind, and tells Fester to leave. As she’s escaping with the woman, who calls her an angel, Thornhill escapes herself, with Slurp’s unknowing help. Thornhill goes to Tyler and tells him that she’s keeping her promise to save him, but this weird relationship ended a long time ago, because Tyler turns into the Hyde right after he gives her just enough time to start running from him. However, she ends up in front of a door, and he pierces her with his long claws as she pleads with Tyler for him to spare her. With the way the camera lingers on her, we can imagine she’s dead, but this is “Wednesday,” and she’s the big villainess, so maybe she’ll wake up again.

Unfortunately, Fairburn’s eaten up by Slurp, so she’s done for, but more importantly, before he eats Gus, he calls him an old pal. So, not only is Slurp getting his brain back, but he’s also starting to remember old things, which means these two must’ve experimented together at some point, no? By this time, Enid has also made a call to the Sheriff, which means help is on its way, but it might be too late.

At the end of episode 4, Wednesday finds herself face-to-face with the Hyde. She tells her new friend to escape before the Hyde comes running at her. Wednesday is flung out of the window and left bleeding on the ground. I can just imagine Morticia’s reaction. Wednesday’s last fourth wall-breaking words let us know that she’s realized she’s made things worse rather than better this time.

What Can We Expect From Part 2?

There are a few characters we need to be suspicious about, Capri: the redhead, Slurp: the zombie with a brain, Tyler: the runaway Hyde, Dort: the pawn, and Judi: the Avian. I’m not sure yet if Dort and Judi were working together or if they are enemies of some kind. I’m hoping Capri is a good person, mainly because I love Billie Piper, but also that would be too obvious an answer, no? I don’t think Judi is dead, but she might be severely injured after all the patients were set free. Nobody knows what Dort is up to right now. Personally, I didn’t realize Tyler would have such a big role this season. In fact, I just assumed he’d disappear like Xavier, too (not for the same reasons, of course). Hyde escaping means that there’s going to be mayhem everywhere.

I don’t know about you, but I feel like with a regenerated brain, Slurp will be on the side of the Outcasts, so he might do some good for them, rather than be another enemy? But we’ll have to see about that. The big fear is that Wednesday won’t wake up from this mess, but she is our protagonist, so she’ll be okay, right? I think part 2 will focus more on the relationship between the mother and daughter and the Addams family working all together.

The other thing is that I think the nameless patient is Ophelia. She definitely looks like Morticia too, and she’s been missing for 20 years, so it makes full sense that it would be her, no? What do you think, and what are your expectations of season 2, part 2?
