Spoiler Alert
Why did Raul hate Cristina?
At the beginning of Welcome to the Family, we saw that Cristina, who worked as a nurse, lived with her three kids, Toto, Jana, and Jorge, in her humble abode. Cristina’s husband wasn’t in the picture anymore, but surprisingly, her brother-in-law had decided to stay back. It was a weird mix, but somehow Moi became a part of the family, and the others, too, didn’t have a problem with his presence. It was mainly because of the kind of man he was. Unlike his brother, Moi was an extremely sensitive human being who really liked Cristina for who she was. Moi never expressed his feelings because he knew that Cristina didn’t like him that way, and he was too scared that she would get awkward and ask him to leave. One fine day, Cristina’s life was turned upside down when a bunch of goons arrived at her place and asked her to vacate the house. Cristina learned that her father, Raul Ruiz, and her brother, Benjamin, had taken money from certain investors, but they hadn’t repaid their debts. One of the investors happened to be a mafia boss named Aldama, and he was ready to go to extreme lengths to get his money back. Raul realized the threat he could pose, and so he asked him to go and seize the house where Cristina lived. Raul believed that the house belonged to his ex-wife, but he had no clue that it was Cristina who had paid the installments for the house over the years. Cristina went to her father, and that’s when we got to know the kind of hatred that man had for his daughter. Raul, back in the day, had asked Cristina to abandon her kid, Jorge after the family got to know that he suffered from Down syndrome. Cristina left her father’s house because she was not ready to abandon her own flesh and blood. After that day, Raul didn’t talk to Cristina, and he told everybody that his daughter had left the family. Raul was living with another woman named Luciana, aka Lucy, who loved him unconditionally, not having any clue about the kind of treacherous man he was. Raul, while Cristina was present at the house, had a heart attack and died on the spot. Cristina went through his will, and she learned that the wicked old man had left all his property to his son, Benjamin, her brother. Another shocking revelation was made when Lucy realized that she had never officially been married to Raul, and the old man had lied to her all that while. Cristina understood that if she didn’t do anything, then the entire property would be transferred to her brother, which she didn’t want. So Lucy and Cristina decided to play a game; they decided to hide the fact that Raul had died so that they could alter the will and become beneficiaries together with Benjamin.
What did Olga find out about Cristina?
Raul’s prying neighbor, Olga, got a whiff of what Cristina was up to, and she tried to inform Horacio, the federal agent who lived in the same neighborhood, about it. Horacio was infatuated with Cristina, so for the longest time, he didn’t pay any attention to what Olga said. Olga was a writer, but due to poor sales of her previous work, her publisher had lost faith in her and was no longer ready to keep her books in print. Olga was on the lookout for a gripping story, and she believed that the murder at her neighbor’s house could act as her source of inspiration. Meanwhile, Benjamin came back to meet his father, only to be kidnapped by Aldama and tortured for not paying the money on time. Cristina managed to get Benjamin released, and that’s how he, too, became a part of the plan. Lucy went to meet a struggling lawyer named Rolando Martinez, who decided to help out the family, provided he was compensated properly. The first thing that needed to be done was to destroy the original will. So Cristina and Lucy, with the help of their kids and Moi, hatched a plan and stole the original will from the notary public archives. It was strange that Lucy and Cristina teamed up, but they were able to resolve their differences just because they knew that they both had been used and betrayed by the wicked old man. Toto, Cristina’s eldest, and Ines, Lucy’s daughter from another husband, came close during the course of all the planning and plotting. Even Horacio tried to woo Cristina, but their liaison was short-lived, as Cristina realized that he was just not the man for her. Meanwhile, Olga kept collecting evidence, and finally, she was able to take pictures that proved that the family was hiding something. Olga desperately sought validation; she wanted to hear from her publisher that she liked what she wrote, and she wanted to show the world what she was capable of. Olga tried to approach Horacio many times, but the man was in love, and he just couldn’t find any fault on Cristina’s part. One day, while trying to collect evidence, Olga fell from the boundary wall and got severely injured. She was admitted to the hospital, and that became a blessing in disguise for Cristina and her family.
How did Cristina change Raul’s will?
After days of planning and plotting, after taking the risk of keeping Raul’s dead body in the freezer at home, Cristina, Benjamin, and Lucy came to a collective decision that, in order to throw the investors off their tail and change his will, they needed to really take a huge risk. They decided that, firstly, they would hire a professional actor who would pretend to be Raul, as the lawyers wouldn’t amend the will if they came to know that the man was dead. Secondly, it was decided that Benjamin would have to fake his death so that the investors would stop chasing them. An actor named Mariano was hired, who took his work rather seriously. The will was amended, and Lucy and Cristina were made equal benefactors together with Benjamin. Then Lucy and Cristina stole a random body from a morgue and fixed Benjamin’s teeth to its dentures, as they knew that the police could verify the identity of the person using their dental records.
After the arrangements were made, at the end of Welcome to the Family, Lucy took the dead body of the real Raul together with the stolen dead body from the morgue to dispose of them. Before she could burn the car down, Aldama, who had been keeping an eye on the family, came from behind and pushed the car down the cliff, believing that Raul and his son were sitting inside the car. So basically, the work was done, and Aldama believed that he was the man who had killed both of his debtors. At that moment, Lucy didn’t have any clue that it was blessings in disguise, and that later Aldama’s action could help them prove Cristina’s innocence in front of the police.
Was Horacio able to find evidence against Cristina?
During Welcome to the Family’s ending Horacio was able to get his hands on evidence that proved that Cristina was up to something and that she was hiding dead bodies at her place. Horacio also figured out that Cristina and the others had burnt the original will. Horacio was also quite heartbroken after he realized that Cristina didn’t reciprocate his feelings, and that Moi was also trying to woo the lady. Though Cristina didn’t like Horacio enough to spend her life with him, she also didn’t have any clue that Moi had feelings for her. Everybody apart from her saw how the man looked at her. Moi had his own insecurities, so he never explicitly stated his feelings, but he made them quite obvious through his actions. Once Cristina was taken in, Moi realized that, while telling everybody what actually had happened on that day on the cliff, Lucy had intentionally hidden the fact that it was a Hummer that had come and hit the car. Lucy wanted to prove her worth, which was why she had been telling everybody that she had burnt the car herself and disposed of the bodies. But in reality, it was Aldama’s ride that had pushed the car down the cliff. Once the truth was known, Moi, Lucy, and the kids planned to take the Hummer to the police station and tell them what exactly had transpired. Aldama, who had taken over Raul’s house, had no intention of leaving the place. But Lucy and the others captured him and somehow managed to take him to the police station. The police took him into custody for the murder of Benjamin and Raul, and the best part was that he didn’t even protest, as he himself believed that he had killed both of them. While Cristina was acquitted, Benjamin flew to Guam, only to realize that his accounts had been frozen by the authorities since a video of him and Raul had surfaced, where they had confessed to their crimes. All his money was used to pay off their investors and put an end to the matter.
In the end, Moi, Cristina, Toto, Jorge, and Jana went back to their house, but the moment they stepped foot in their place, they realized that they couldn’t leave Lucy and Ines behind just because their mini mission had come to an end. Lucy and Ines reunited with Cristina and the others and decided to stay together at Raul’s place as one big family.
