‘When The Stars Gossip’ Episode 15 Recap & Ending Explained: Is Eve Pregnant?

Published

I’m honestly a little bit disappointed with the latest turn of events in When The Stars Gossip. The show went from entertaining sci-fi-romantic drama with a lot of ups and downs to what seems like a try-hard pro-life show where nothing seems to go right. Guess there isn’t much to think about here; just focus on the main characters and their deteriorating states. I’ve got to admit Ryong’s character decline has me seriously annoyed, and I wish they’d done something different in this situation. It’s hard to make Lee Min-Ho look this pathetic, but I suppose they’ve managed somehow. Episode 15 doesn’t really give us much to work with, really. Ryong is forced to take the blame for what happened to the morula, and a massive turn of events almost messed with Eve’s mission yet again. But let me directly jump into these events so we can get over this quick and finish this darn show.

Spoiler Alert

What Happens To The Morula?

Episode 15 takes off right at the end of episode 14, where Ryong is begging Eve to save the morula. Unfortunately, the stakes are too high for Eve to do that, because it isn’t just about her own life along with Ryong’s; it is also about the whole Korean space unit. Eve decides to give up the morula but changes the story to Ryong having come back to Seoul to fertilize the egg instead of in space. And that he admitted what he was there for to Eve just before they nearly died. Essentially this is a story cooked up to save the entire team, and Eve says that she hid the truth because she thought it would ruin her reputation as the commander. On the other hand, Go-Eun rushes to Kang-Su to get help for Ryong, but he just destroys all evidence instead of rushing to the station. He tells Go-Eun that if she wants to get her dad out of trouble, they have to side with the MCC, i.e., not save Ryong. Finally, the team watches as Dona “kills” the morula, but before she can trash it, Eve puts it back in the freezer and hands it over to Ryong. She tells him what the story is now so they can corroborate, but Ryong is too furious at this point, calling her a monster who killed the other 7 morulas, so this would be no big deal for her. He then goes on to say that she killed him with that morula and that he’ll always remember what she did, so she should too. I mean, this man is really overreacting for a doctor, but okay.

What Happens To Ryong?

It’s kind of funny how it’s two men who create a big scene about the morula mess; one is Go-Eun’s dad, because his grandchild has slipped through his fingers, and the other is Ryong, who is the ob-gyn in charge. I do understand he went to space to make all of this happen, but seeing the consequences should’ve calmed the man down a little bit. I don’t think it’s really helping for him to make a scene. Anyway, 2 months later Eve’s in space again, and Ryong simply spirals after losing his license and his purpose in life. In the meanwhile, the team goes to the space station, and everything goes well there. I mean, it’s all good because Ryong will be the one to stand trial for everything they did together. Mina was right when she said none of this would’ve happened had they not found the lottery ticket.

What Happens To Eve?

While Ryong gets sentenced to two years in prison (which is suspended for 4 years) and a 140 billion won fine, Eve is chilling in space until she realizes something’s off. Go-Eun wonders if her dad is guilty of blaming Ryong for his own wrongdoings, but he’s found out about Ryong having cheated on her in space. All Ryong does is get drunk, do the dishes at his mom’s restaurant, and end the day. Even Kang-Su wants him to help him out and tells him to go to the US to get his license back. I suppose the man isn’t all bad, he even offers to pay Ryong’s fine using the lottery money (I honestly don’t think he cashed it out, we know he’s already ultra-rich).

One fine day, Eve realizes she’s pregnant after doing an ultrasound. We get to hear from other characters about how it’ll be hard to have a living thing grow inside of you in space because it will essentially eat away at all your survival supplies. Eve sends a picture of the ultrasound to Yi-Man to confirm it’s actually a fetus and not just her imagination. Yi-Man confirms it’s a 12-week-old baby, and we already know who the father is, so there’s really no doubt here that this baby was conceived in space. Mina and Seung-Jun, who are now a proper couple, overhear Eve’s conversation with Yi-Man.

Eve doesn’t believe she’s pregnant because she doesn’t think she deserves such a “gift.” She wonders how this baby “came to her” when she never asked for it. She tells Mina and Seung-Jun that it was conceived in space and that she wants to keep it. Of course, Eve is also frightened because Ryong basically hates her, and she’s worried he won’t accept the baby or, worse, hate the baby. Eve’s always been the kind of person who believes she’s alone. Her mother abandoned her, and even though she’s adopted, it doesn’t seem like she has a real connection with her adoptive family. So, it must really hit home when Mina and Seung-Jun promise to help Eve get back home and don’t want her to die in space. See, Eve can’t imagine someone wanting to make it through, but their genuine concern is certainly heartwarming and might give her some confidence in this baby’s situation too, though they’re sure the baby can’t survive the strain of 4 times Earth’s gravity.

At the end of When The Stars Gossip episode 15, Yi-Man finally finds Ryong and gives him the phone so Eve can tell him herself what’s going on. Ryong, of course, doesn’t pick up because he’s been AWOL on purpose. Somehow, when Yi-Man is asking Ryong about his sexual relations with Eve, he doesn’t put two and two together. But in the end, he has a look at the phone, which has a video of the ultrasound and Eve’s message saying that the baby’s heartbeat is too fast. From the preview of the next episode, it looks like Ryong is going to beg to go be with Eve. But wouldn’t that be too much time in space for the baby? It’s not like she can have the baby there and bring it back, is it? Also, isn’t this a bigger problem for the KSA? Also, I think Kang-Su and Go-Eun will get back together (I don’t know why he’s asking her to have a kid when we know she can’t, though). I mean, the end has to be somewhat happy, right? Do you all think the baby will be born fine?
