Young Sheldon (TV Series) Review – A Mighty Little Man!

Published

Young Sheldon created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro is an American sitcom series for CBS. It is a prequel to the famous series The Big Bang Theory and is the story of the series’ most beloved character, Sheldon Cooper. The series has completed three seasons and has premiered the fourth season in the November of 2020.

Sheldon, as already introduced in The Big Bang Theory as an exceptionally intelligent scientist with an eidetic memory, lives in East Texas with his family and has the same qualities as a young boy. As a nine-year-old boy in high school, Sheldon faces several difficulties, both in school and his own house being around people who cannot deal with his unique intellectual capabilities. Along with him, other characters in the series are Mary Cooper as Sheldon’s mother, George Cooper as Sheldon’s father, Connie Tucker as Sheldon’s grandmother, and Georgie and Missy as his siblings. All of the characters have some reference in the series The Big Bang Theory. Interestingly, the actor playing the role of Mary is the real-life daughter of the actor who played the role of Sheldon’s mother in The Big Bang Theory!

The actors have given excellent performances with special mention to Iain Armitage as Young Sheldon, who has done full justice to the character which would have been quite difficult given that the audience has already seen the adult Sheldon. Jim Parsons, who played the character of adult Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, is also a part of the series as a narrator and executive producer.

Young Sheldon has been shown having the same qualities and quirks as his counterpart in The Big Bang Theory. His love for physics and trains and obsession about cleanliness, and consideration of himself as intellectually superior to others. He is scared of germs and diseases and has trouble making friends, or talking normally to people.

Apart from the cast, the show has welcomed various guest stars in many episodes just like The Big Bang Theory. The show has been excellently written which can be enjoyed by grown-ups and children. Apart from having fans of The Big Bang Theory as its audience, the show has its separate fan following because of the adorable character of Young Sheldon. The show, unlike The Big Bang Theory, does not have studio audience laughter though which came out good for the show.

The first episode of the fourth season has been aired on November 5 2020, with the celebration of Sheldon’s high school graduation. Despite being excited about going to college and learning new things, Sheldon is scared that so much is changing and how is he going to cope with the people in college. It would be very exciting to see Sheldon going to college and dealing with whole new problems as a college student.

Young Sheldon (Season 4 and All previous Seasons) is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
