The ending of Zombies 4: Dawn Of The Vampires is a fitting goodbye to the original cast of the series, who are now clearly too old to be playing monsters. So the last time I watched a Disney Channel original of my own free will was on reruns of High School Musical, which makes it very obvious that I’m too old for the movies the production company is putting out today. So, it shouldn’t surprise you when I say that not only had I not watched any of the Zombies movies before, I hadn’t even heard of them. But I was quite pleasantly surprised by this movie. While on the surface, this film pushes the message of teamwork makes the dream work, a Disney favorite, it also focuses on the pressure of doing great in school, trying to be the best version of yourself and what that entails, and of course, most importantly, thinking outside the box and ending age-old wars. With that said, though, let’s talk about the ending of Zombies 4 and what it means for the rest of the franchise.
Spoiler Alert
How Do The Two Sides Come Together?
After accidentally crashing the car because of a “pulse” that broke Zed’s Z-band for a bit, the OG gang ends up smack in the middle of a war between the Vampires and the Daywalkers. The Vampires and Daywalkers have been fighting for generations because they believe that the Blood Fruit, which is what keeps them both alive, belongs to each faction individually. But the latest generation of younglings from both factions spawned leaders who believe that they’ve been fighting too long. While looking for help, Zed ends up with the Daywalkers, and Addison ends up with the Vampires. This leads to them bringing the two gangs together at a camp, suggesting that if they work together to find the 3 keys to open the orchard, both sides can be saved and live in peace.
At the same time, Victor and Nova, the two young leaders of the Vampires and Daywalkers, seem to have a secret connection. They’ve been seeing visions of each other, making them realize that they should stand together, not fight amongst themselves. When they see each other, they’re completely shocked, realizing that they’re actually real, not just images in their heads. It turns out that the pulse that Zed feels through the Z-band is caused by a tower that’s fallen over. Now there are two problems to solve: one is that of the Orchard, which needs to be opened to keep the Vampires and Daywalkers alive, and the other is for the zombies to be saved from the pulse.
Zed and Addison are both trying to be leaders in their own way. Addison wants to be the cheer captain, and Zed needs to improve his football skills to make it onto the collegiate team. However, this obsession has led them to step away from family and not even have time for each other. The film tells us that you don’t have to constantly think about bettering yourself if it means leaving your loved ones behind or neglecting the good stuff you already have. This is what they realize after they get the Vampires and Daywalkers together. They essentially tell them that all kinds of monsters can live in harmony, their gang being the biggest example. Zed and the girls put the tower back up using all their strength and succeeded in stopping the pulse, saving everyone back home, too. But at the top of the tower are two pieces of Moonstone, the thing that created the Vampires and Daywalkers. This is probably what keeps the Orchard alive, too.
Do Victor and Nova change the adults?
It’s always the adults who are stuck in their old ideas, which keeps them close-minded to the things that might, in the end, help them. This is why they never bother understanding why the Blood Fruits are dying; they just want to play the blame game. Luckily, the kids are open-minded and realize that they have to come together, that they were always meant to work together to keep the Orchard alive. The “pulse” of the Orchard is the two Moonstones coming together. When the adults realize that they’ve been working together, they show up to fight again, but they end up burning down the Orchard, leaving both sides with nothing left but a war.
In Zombies 4’s ending, Victor and Nova combine the two Moonstones at the risk of being considered traitors and being banished, but they’re successful. The Orchard comes back to life with the coming of the rain, and the Blood Fruits are restored to full health, which means everybody can survive and live harmoniously. If only it were so easy in real life, eh? This proves that the Vampires and Daywalkers should’ve never gone their separate ways, and the only way to keep things going is by working together. which means they have no choice but to mingle and celebrate their differences. But this is not where the movie ends. Zed and Addison decide they’ll be okay even if they don’t become a cheer captain and a genius football player as long as they can be happy with who they are. While we can’t be sure that the adults have completely changed their minds, one thing is certain: they must work together despite their issues. Every year, they must meet during the harvest time and work together for the Blood Fruit. But this means separation for Nova and Victor, who feel like they have finally found someone who understands them. But while they’ve got a lot of time to think about the future, there’s another problem after they say their romantic goodbyes.
Now, I haven’t seen the other Zombies movies, but I can tell that what’s happening with Victor and Nova is something similar to what happened with Addison and Zed. Now those two are happy together, but considering there are 3 other movies before this one, there must’ve been other threats that they fought together. In a similar way, before Zombies 4 ends, there’s a new threat to Victor and Nova. I suppose if they saw visions of each other before, does it imply they have special powers? It could honestly mean anything.
What Does the Water Wave Hints At?
From what I understand, the Zombies franchise will probably let go of the OG cast and move onto the new creatures, Vampires and Daywalkers. With Victor and Nova at center stage, the new threat comes from the water. An external entity that will probably force the Vampires and Daywalkers to work together. The water could mean many things; maybe there are mermaids, maybe there’s a world underwater, or maybe it’s just a nature vs. monster situation. We’ll have to wait to find out, but one thing is certain: the Zombies movies aren’t over.
