‘Bad Monkey’ Episode 3 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Is Christopher?

Published

I’ve got to admit I was quite skeptical to watch Bad Monkey at first because I’m not the biggest fan of comedy, and not even the mystery aspect of this show interested me. But two episodes in, and I was already decidedly dedicated to finding out what happened to Nick Stripling. Episodes 1 and 2 set us up with the main characters of Bad Monkey and how all their lives are intertwined. Episode 3 begins with Neville and Yancy meeting for the first time at Neville’s sister’s restaurant. Yancy’s there as a food inspector, and Neville’s there to keep his sister company. Yancy learns that the restaurant is perfectly clean except for the monkey gobbling down some grapes. Now this could be a massive issue, but Neville convinces Yancy to come back in a week and check for no monkey. At the same time, Yancy and Rosa are now basically partners trying to solve this Nick case together. Will they be able to get to the bottom of it? We’ll find out soon enough.

Spoiler Alert

What Happens to O’Peele?

Rosa and Yancy then move from the restaurant to the Stripling case. Their first step is to interrogate Madaline, Phinney’s girlfriend, who previously ran away at the sight of Yancy. They find the girl working at the local “Chest Candy,” and as suspected, she makes a run for it. But Yancy’s one step ahead of her. Now Yancy and Rosa confirm the theory that someone asked Phinney to make it look like the man pulled an arm out of the sea, all while it was actually given to Phinney by said person with a 3000 dollar cash price for the deal done. Now Madeline realizes that whoever killed Nick might’ve killed Phinney to keep his mouth shut. Also, it was a man who gave Phinney the arm and told him to hook it up to the random guy’s fishing rod.

On the other hand, Christopher shoots at Neville and Driggs because they’re on his property. He’s also already gotten rid of Neville’s boat for the same reason. Tsk tsk, this man’s going to get cursed so bad. In the meantime, Yancy pretends to be a fed again at a police station to find more information. Before they go in, he gets a call from Bonnie and tells her that she’s wanted as a sex offender. She claims the boy she slept with was a little shy of 18 and plays it off as a joke, as does Yancy, which makes Rosa quite irritated. It looks like Rosa’s interested in getting with Yancy. Of course, this is because he’s playing it coy and saying all these things to her that could read as flirty but also not. Rosa asks him how he could not know the real name of the person he was dating.

Now, the young man they distract to get their hands on Christopher/Nick’s file realizes quickly that they’re not feds, which means they have to get the hell out of there. The guard dog gets a nice piece of Yancy’s backside, while Rosa escapes with her agility. Before they make a run for it, though, they learn of a man named Israel O’Peele, A doctor whose name is on a bunch of prescriptions, so they decide to go find this O’Peele. O’Peele’s a doctor who has a drug problem, which is probably why he answers their questions. Israel wants protection if he has to answer questions about Nick, but of course, Yancy can’t give it to him. O’Peele tells the duo that Nick and Eve were a perfect PDA couple, and he’d never think there’d be someone else in Eve’s life. He mentions that Nick paid him for some sort of insurance scam. But, when O’Peele learns about Phinney’s death, he starts to freak out a little bit. Yancy understands, gives him his number, and tells him to give him any information he can think of.

Back on the other side of town, Neville meets with the Dragon Queen again and asks her to speed up the curse. He gives her some more money, which he probably got from his sister. But Neville’s been disrespectful earlier by showing up at a funeral and demanding information about his curse from her, so her Ya-Ya asks for something more. If Neville doesn’t have faith, the curse will never escalate. Eventually, Neville leaves Driggs with the Dragon Queen’s Ya-Ya. A symbol of his faith. At the same time, O’Peele calls Eve and asks her if she knew about Phinney’s death. The woman pretends she doesn’t know and then invites him to a gathering to cool off rather than think about this kid’s situation. Later, Yancy comes back to look for O’Peele only to find him shot in the face. It looks like a suicide, but we don’t know about that yet.

Who is Christopher?

Yancy takes Rosa out for some ice cream and basically asks her some questions because it seems like he likes teaming up with her. She thinks he’s flirting with her, but then decides to go back to work the next day. At the same time, Neville learns that his friends are freaking out because of the whole Christopher thing. He’s obviously a messed up and dangerous man. In the meantime, all this lurking around has Yancy in a dangerous spot, and it seems like someone’s threatening him even near his home. But hey, at least he’s making sure nobody’s moving into his insensitive neighbors house.

On the other hand, Rosa runs some searches on Christopher and comes back with zilch. In her words, it’s like this guy doesn’t exist. She also learns that Yancy’s a good guy, but not so good in love, so she shouldn’t date him. At the same time, Yancy gets the car he’s been promised by Sonny. Yancy asks his ex-partner and Sonny what happened to the arm case, and Yancy gets mad hearing that it’s been brushed under the rug as an accident. Yancy then visits Caitlin and asks her about the insurance situation. He knows Eve’s the reason Caitlin agreed to declare her father dead, but he convinces her again that Eve’s the one who killed her father.

Yancy then goes to Rosa in Miami and gets his dog bite stitched up by her. He really wants to talk to her about the case and get her to help him join the dots. Rosa points out that O’Peele was probably the guy who chopped off the arm and made it look like an accident. They realize that Madeline’s life might actually be in danger and try to send Reg there because they’re too far out, but Reg’s too busy having drinks with a guy. However, when they make it to Madeline’s, Reg is there too, meaning he somewhat trusts Yancy’s hunches, but they’re all relieved to see that Madeline’s doing fine. In the meantime, Neville breaks into Christopher’s place and finds a thumb drive. He’s caught by Christopher’s lackey Egg, but he pulls a gun on him, so Egg lets him go for the time being.

At the end of Bad Monkey episode 3, Caitlin visits Eve in her home and asks her to admit that she killed her father. It’s basically just for closure at this point, but she points a gun at her. Eve then tells her that she didn’t kill her dad, which is the truth, because when Caitlin looks back, her father’s standing there. Only, it’s Chirstopher. Which means they’re the same guy, and he cut his own arm off and changed his identity so they could use the insurance money to start a new life. Why wouldn’t you tell your own daughter that, though, even if you were fighting?
