The second installment of the Fear Street franchise, Fear Street Part 2: 1978 takes us to the missing link that holds the key to the entire situation that Deena and her friends were facing. It takes us to C. Berman, the only woman who had escaped the wrath of the voodoo put on her by the witch named Sarah Fier. C. Berman starts telling Deena and Josh about the day that changed her life forever.

Plot Summary – The Fateful Summer Camp of 1978

Cindy Berman was a part of a summer camp attended by kids from both Shadyside and Sunnyvale. As usual, the Sunnyvaler were at their cocky best and left no opportunity to harass the underconfident Shadysider. A girl named Ziggy was being bullied by a few Sunnyvalers when a dark-haired boy named Nick Goode came to her rescue. We get to know that Ziggy and Cindy are sisters, but things are not right between them. There were financial problems that had led to a lot of issues in the family.

Things start getting weird when Nurse Lane attacks Cindy’s boyfriend, Tommy Slater. The nurse seemed possessed, and she tells Tom that he will die one way or another. This leaves the group baffled. They can’t help but think that Nurse Lane was possessed by the witch’s spell. It is all speculation until Cindy and Tom decide to investigate the matter and get answers to the uncanny and supernatural events taking place around them.

The Diary of Nurse Lane

hen Tom and Cindy visit Nurse Lane’s office, they get their hands on a diary. The diary contained all the findings that Nurse Lane had made after Ruby’s daughter had died. People said that Ruby was possessed by Sarah Fier, and it drove Nurse lane mad. She wanted to know the absolute truth behind her daughter’s demise.

The diary leads them to two significant findings. Firstly, Sarah Fier had severed her hand on Satan’s tomb and thereby wished for immortality. The only way to stop this curse was to reunite this severed hand of Sarah Fier to her body in the grave. And secondly, the dairy had the whereabouts of Sarah Fier’s actual home. Together with their friends Alice and Arnie (who were only interested in procuring any intoxicating substance), Tom and Cindy follow the map and reach Sarah Fier’s house.

The House of Sarah Fier

They find multiple graves dug near the witch’s house and realize that Nurse Lane was trying to find the body of Sarah Fier. They also find a tunnel originating near Sarah Fier’s house. It was a long tunnel, a sort of cave that led them to a wall where names of all the victims were written. They find even Tom’s written there, which makes them realize that he might be the next. Just then, Tom shows first signs of being possessed and kills Arnie brutally. Cindy and Alice somehow make a narrow escape.

Tom goes back to the summer camp and starts killing the kids there. Ziggy Berman and her love interest, Nick Goode, also face the horrors as they run out of ways to escape the wrath.

Call it fate or divine intervention but Cindy and Alice bump into Satan’s tomb. Alice finds the severed hand of Sarah Fier. Now they actually had a chance to finish the matter once and for all.

‘Fear Street Part 2: 1978’ Ending Explained

Alice is killed by Tom. Cindy and Ziggy get hold of the severed hand and locate the tree under which the body of Sarah Fier is buried. They hurry towards the tree. With whatever energy is left inside them, they start digging. But all hope seems lost when they see multiple people, possessed by the witch, rampaging towards them. Before they could even blink, both the sisters are mercilessly beaten to death. The killers were after Ziggy because she had bled on the hand of Sarah Fier. Cindy just sacrificed herself to save her sister.

But Nick Goode arrives just in time to save Ziggy. When the police officials ask her name, Nick gives them a fake one, i.e., Christine Berman.

Deena and Josh realize that C. Berman was actually Ziggy and not Cindy. The name change helped her to keep her real identity hidden.

The road to ‘Fear Street Part 3: 1666’

Deena and Josh find the severed hand of Sarah Fier in the mall where the killings started in part one. They take the hand to Sarah Fier’s grave. As soon as Deena puts the hand on the grave, she gets a hallucinatory premonition. She sees herself transported to 1666. She is holding a dagger, and while looking inside a well, she does not see her reflection but that of Sarah Fier.

Part three will take us to Sarah Fier’s story in 1666. Maybe Ziggy, Josh, and Deena will find a way to end the curse forever, or perhaps they succumb just like others.

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 is a 2021 Teen Slasher film directed by Leigh Janiak. The trilogy is streaming on Netflix.
