‘Idol I’ Episodes 3-4 Recap: Who Is Hye-Joo?

Published

In episodes 3 and 4 of Idol I, we see Ra-Ik and Se-Na get closer together because he’s now living in her house after becoming unconscious by the Han River. I already mentioned how this show is basically fan service for any kind of fangirl, especially if they’re lawyers. Se-Na’s love for Ra-Ik seems to be quite realistic, because she still thinks logically when she’s working with him. Yes, she believes he’s innocent, but she still won’t go without investigating him properly. In these episodes, Se-Na also learns a lot about Ra-Ik’s personal life that she might not have known as a superfan, even. Additionally, she also interacts with the other band members, even if it’s for a very limited amount of time. There are already some adorable moments between the main leads, and I can’t wait to see how they grow closer as the show progresses. With that said, let’s get into episodes 3 and 4.

Spoiler Alert

What Happens When Hye-Joo Shows Up?

Episode 3 of Idol I begins with Se-Na finding Ra-Ik at the police station after he got drunk and fell unconscious. The next day, Ra-Ik wakes up at Se-Na’s house and doesn’t know what’s going on. Earlier that night, Chung-Jae asked Se-Na why she wasn’t afraid of Ra-Ik, who is a suspected murderer. She says the only thing she’s afraid of, really, is misunderstanding him. The next day, Ra-Ik wakes up to Se-Na holding a knife and freaks out. But he walks away despite her explaining the situation. In the meantime, Byung-Gyun, the prosecutor, learns that the knife wounds on Woo-Seong are very precise, which means it is unlikely that a drunk Ra-Ik did the job. On the other hand, Se-Na meets with the manager and the head of the company, as well as the Gold Boys’ members, Jae-Hee and Young-Bin. It seems like nobody fully believes Ra-Ik is innocent, though Han-Gu, the manager, seems to trust Ra-Ik.

But the real blow comes when Se-Na meets Ra-Ik’s mother, and all she really cares about is money, and now Se-Na understands why Ra-Ik always seemed so sad. It seems Ra-Ik’s mother was a performer herself when he was young, and he followed in her footsteps at a very young age. He then got signed to a management company and met his buddy, Woo-Seong. The duo eventually became friends, despite having differences initially. Ra-Ik then visits Woo-Seong’s funeral, and fortunately, it goes okay. Afterwards, Ra-Ik tells the media that he is supportive of the police and will help find the real killer of his friend. On the other hand, Byung-Gyun finally realizes Se-Na was the girl he used to bully in high school, thanks to his dad reminding him that she was smarter than him.

Later, Se-Na and Ra-Ik visit the prosecutor to discuss the CCTV footage Byung-Gyun has found, and he asks Ra-Ik why he left the store empty-handed. There’s something fishy about this. But Ra-Ik doesn’t really have anything to say, except that he didn’t find the right liquor. Finally, the episode ends with a woman showing up out of the blue at the prosecutor’s office and giving Ra-Ik a hug. But Se-Na seems to recognize her.

Who Is Hye-Joo?

Episode 4 begins with a flashback of Se-Na seeing rumors about Ra-Ik dating somebody from the same company. This somebody is Hye-Joo, who is the same woman who showed up at the prosecutor’s office. In the present day, Se-Na notices somebody taking pictures of Ra-Ik and Hye-Joo hugging, so she immediately drives them away. She also calls Chung-Jae to where she’s headed. While Chung-Jae realizes that this woman is the reason there were days that Se-Na didn’t eat or sleep properly, Ra-Ik tells Hye-Joo to stay away from this case and stop trying to find him. But she reveals that she saw Jae-Hee at the scene of the murder that night, and this is odd, because the news said Jae-Hee was at the hospital. Ra-Ik requests Se-Na to take Hye-Joo home, but Se-Na is upset because she thinks he’s hiding something from her.

On the other hand, Byung-Gyun learns that a woman who seems to be hostile towards Ra-Ik showed up on the night of the murder, and the car she was driving happens to belong to Imwha Group. At the same time, Se-Na tells Chung-Jae to find the dashcam footage of the taxi that showed up on the night when Hye-Joo was with Ra-Ik. Meanwhile, Ra-Ik visits the dorm and has another fight with Jae-Hee. Young-Bin lies for Jae-Hee, but I’m not entirely sure why just yet. Meanwhile, Byung-Gyun learns that one of his colleagues set him up with Hye-Joo, and this is basically a crime.

At the same time, an article comes out about Ra-Ik and Hye-Joo, and he immediately wants to know if legal action can be taken against it. But when Se-Na seems hesitant, he rushes to the journalist’s place to make a scene and stop him from ruining Hye-Joo’s life. In a flashback, we find out that Woo-Seong was in touch with Hye-Joo without telling Ra-Ik about it, and Ra-Ik didn’t like that he had a secret. On the day that Woo-Seong was killed, Ra-Ik went to see Hye-Joo, specifically to end it all for good, but it was cut short because of the taxi showing up. Ra-Ik never told Se-Na about the situation because he was trying to protect Hye-Joo. On the other hand, Byung-Gyun interrogates Hye-Joo (though as a witness), and she tells him that he should check the alibis of those around Ra-Ik. She mentions who she saw that night.

Meanwhile, back in the dorms, Young-Bin asks Jae-Hee why he lied about being in the hospital, and Jae-Hee gets exasperated. He’s clearly hiding something, though we don’t know what just yet. Back at Se-Na’s house, Ra-Ik is left alone, and he sees a post-it note where Se-Na says that he’s definitely not a killer. When Se-Na returns home, she finds Ra-Ik sleeping at the table. She then sits down to admire his face and starts to cry because she wishes they could go back to how things were earlier. Hey, but at least now she can romance her favorite idol. The next morning, Se-Na decides to ambush Byung-Gyun by giving him the dashcam footage of Ra-Ik and Hye-Joo. This will prove that they were not planning the murder of Woo-Seong together. The ambush is successful for the time being, and Hye-Joo can’t be treated as an accomplice anymore. This makes Ra-Ik so happy that he ends up hugging Se-Na.

At the end of Idol I episode 4, Byung-Gyun confronts Se-Na, aka stinky Se-Na, and tells her that she’s changed a lot since high school. She tells him that he’s never going to win the case because he’s always obsessing over random things, like thinking that she chose this case to ruin his life as revenge. Ironically, Ra-Ik thinks that the two might’ve dated, and Se-Na cusses him out. But before they can finish this conversation, shockingly, Se-Na can’t control her car anymore, and at the end of the episode, it goes flying off the side of the road. But obviously, Se-Na and Ra-Ik will be fine, based on the preview of the next episode. Clearly, somebody wanted to sabotage Ra-Ik once again, but this time, Se-Na got stuck in the crossfire.
