‘Palm Royale’ Season 2 Episode 8 Recap: Is Douglas Dead?

Published

As we near the end of Palm Royale season 2, the drama just keeps picking up, and at the end of every episode, we’re left wondering, what the heck did we just watch? It’s like there’s already so much going on, but in the last 2-3 minutes of the episode, it just gets progressively worse in that so much happens that you just don’t know what to make of it. Still, it’s such a fun show with all the women being their unhinged selves and the men functionally being puppets, not even realizing what they’ve done. I genuinely don’t know what to make of the end of this episode, especially with what Robert says, but we’ll get to that in a bit. On the other hand, I must apologize for the fact that I believed Robert was actually Norma’s (well, Agnes’) son. Turns out it was just an adoption. I’m sorry I got confused, but I hope I’m not the only one. Anyway, this episode takes us to the Swiss Alps, where everything looks like an advertisement billboard and nothing seems to be making sense anymore. Also, I’m not sure I liked the fake German accents, even if they’re a, well, “sign of the times.” Anyway, with that said, let’s jump straight into episode 8 of season 2.

Spoiler Alert

Why Can’t Maxine Sign the Papers?

Palm Royale episode 8 begins with the whole gang on a luxury plane to Switzerland; Virginia and Ann are included because Maxine has a big plan to get everything set for everyone. On the other hand, Evelyn seems to be tense about the fact that she cheated on Eduardo, so she’s hoping to make it seem like they’re going on their second honeymoon, all while trying to get rid of Maxine. Meanwhile, Mitzi is furious that Maxine pretended to be dead and haunted her, so she’s taking every opportunity to let her know. Already in Switzerland, Robert gets to admire a beautiful portrait of himself, thanks to his new mother, Norma. Robert is now legally a member of the Dellacortes. At the same time, back on the flight, Douglas tries to convince Maxine to get back with him after the bun pops out, but they’re distracted by Eduardo, who has on a new watch. This gives Maxine the hint that Evelyn cheated on him. Now, Evelyn’s already on another mission of her own, letting Mitzi know that she’s aware Jed is Mitzi’s baby daddy. But, when she asks for half the money, Mitzi can’t do anything for her because it’s already been promised to Maxine. Now, Maxine shows up as Mitzi walks away from Evelyn. Maxine now knows about the IRS issue with the Palm, and asks Evelyn to promise her a partnership so she’ll fix the IRS problem once she gets her half of the money. Evelyn doesn’t really have a choice apart from saying yes.

On the way to the hotel, Maxine does say that one mission they all share is that of saving Robert, but what she doesn’t know is that he requires no rescuing and might actually turn out to be the most cunning of them all. When they get there, Norma’s already gone, and they now know Robert is her adoptive son. Anyway, they’re left with the receptionist, Lotte. Apparently, they’re all booked out because of Krampus weekend. This is when Lotte tells the ladies the story of Frampus, Krampus’ mistress, i.e., Swiss Santa Claus. Apparently, Mrs. Krampus threw Frampus into the fire when she found out about the affair, so now people decorate brooms and light them on fire, literally turning a woman into a broom, all while nobody questions Krampus (tsk tsk).

On the other hand, when Maxine, Douglas, Perry, Dinah, and Mitzi get to the bank, they find out that the signature they need, which is supposed to be from Douglas’ ex-wife, has to come from Linda, not Maxine, because she was never listed as a beneficiary (ouch). On the other hand, Lotte tells Virginia and Ann that she used to be a nun, but the ladies still don’t know a very important detail about her, which everyone will find out soon. Funny that Lotte thinks the two are dating, but Ann clarifies that she wants them to be equal partners. Meanwhile, Dinah doesn’t get her egg, but she does find a letter from Axel that could prove Norma killed him. On the other hand, Maxine asks the two airhostesses if they can help with a very dangerous economic mission, bringing Linda safely back to the Alps.

Is Douglas Dead?

Maxine realizes that Linda would need something to prove who she is, so she gets Evelyn on that, because apparently, Linda was born in Switzerland. But she also wonders if Evelyn’s told Eduardo about her Jed affair. Evelyn says the watch should suffice and then also advises Maxine not to sleep with Douglas again. Meanwhile, Jed wants Mitzi to kill Evelyn, because she’s now figured out his evil plan, and for some reason, despite everything, Mitzi’s ready to do it for love (I guess). Now, Dinah and Perry give Douglas the letters they found in Axel’s safebox, but Douglas gets distracted by Robert, who’s just having a good time, and decides to ruin it by challenging him to a duel. He even makes a weird croaking sound to call his stag brother, Perry, to help. But Robert, being a marine, immediately knocks them both down. But this whole fight started because of the matching jackets Robert and Doug are wearing, so they end up exchanging jackets, the same one that Doug kept the letters in.

Meanwhile, Dinah, who now agrees to be friends with Eduardo after some challenges, decides to tell him that the watch is an apology because Evelyn likely cheated. But they come down skiing from the top of the mountain together, which leads to Perry calling Dinah names, thinking she cheated. At the same time, Mitzi tries to kill Evelyn, all while she’s with Lotte, getting the Linda docs. But Lotte tells her to stay with her for a bit longer so she can relax a little, reminiscing about Skeet. But Lotte is a genius woman and immediately figures out Mitzi’s plan and tells her to join her for dinner. This is when a shocking truth is revealed behind a painted door. Norma, well, Agnes, is Lotte’s daughter, and Norma has plans for Mitzi’s baby. But that’s if Mitzi marries Robert and somehow Robert agrees to the plan! At the same time, Maxine and Doug get into Robert’s room and steal the letters. But after sliding down the snowy mountains into the Frumpus broom-burning event, Maxine and Doug end up at Agnes’s gravestone. Which means the real Norma’s bones are down there. But right next to it is the grave of Charlotte Moriarty, aka Lotte. Apparently, if you were an unmarried woman with a child, this is what they did to you (Frumpus and all that).

On the other hand, Evelyn tells Eduardo she has something to say, but it happens to be about Mitzi’s pregnancy. While she dreams about getting her house back, Eddie’s so upset he calls her a snake, leaves the ring behind, and walks away. Wonder if their marriage will ever be saved. Meanwhile, Doug takes some schnapps from Lotte. She then starts telling a story about how Krampus is basically the devil but still managed to be a ladies’ man. She also defends Frampus, whose real name has been forgotten. But then Mrs. Krampus destroyed Frampus, shoving her into the fire. Anyway, she basically says the curse is that anyone who has done wrong will be punished by Frampus because she got infected by Mrs. Krampus’ rage.

At the end of Palm Royale season 2, episode 8, Douglas thinks the Schnapps he took from Lotte was poisoned as he goes unconscious, clutching at his heart. He’s probably not dying just yet considering the baby hasn’t been born yet, and I don’t think there’s room for more crazy in Maxine’s life, but we will find out more about it in the next episode. Meanwhile, Evelyn gets thrown off by a massive gust of wind and lands straight where the story is being told, covered in soot, becoming the center of attention and scaring everyone. Mitzi hugs Eddie in the process, and it suddenly feels like another romance is about to begin. But finally, Robert is seen throwing the Axel letters into the fireplace. Now, what Robert doesn’t know is that Maxine has seen the letters from his child, addressed to Robert as “Dad.” Is this sweet man a dad or the daddy of all villains? Well, we’ll have to wait and find out. But for now, one thing is for sure: he wants all this money for himself, probably because he’s got a kid. Now, it’s not long till Maxine finds out what’s really happening with Mitzy, but will she ever get the fortune she deserves? We definitely have to wait to find out.
