‘Friends The Reunion’ Summary & Review – The Most Memorable Moments

Published

Talk about going down memory lane and BOOM! Here we are in 2021 watching the Friends The Reunion and just seeing how time flies. I mean could it Be any better?

Friends is not just a show. It has crossed borders and touched the lives of billions of people all over the world. When David Crane and Marta Kauffman decided to write Friends, they themselves didn’t know that it would become such a phenomenon. I mean a show that aired in 1994 is still touching lives, is still making people laugh, and is still helping people to cope up. No other show I know has been blessed with such longevity and relativeness. Let’s look at some of the most memorable moments of Friends The Reunion

David Crane, Marta Kauffman, and Kevin S. Bright

These were the three people who were responsible for conceiving the premise of Friends. They were all in New York, writing and making shows. They decided to write about a phase of our life when friends are our family. What they did best was conceiving 6 different characters that had the depth to hold the whole show by themselves. That was the strength of the distinct features they had in their mind for all 6 of them. It was not about a single protagonist and his 5 friends. Each character in itself was a protagonist. It was about all of them. It was about their bond. About their chemistry. It was the aspiration of every young adult to be a part of the world that they had created.

The Casting

Finding the right cast took the creators a long time. David Schwimmer was the first to get on the board. They had such distinct outlines of every character that they just didn’t want to settle for something that didn’t fit. Innumerable actors were auditioned before the fabled six were finalized. And what a perfect casting it was. Each actor fitted into their character as if it had been written keeping them only in mind. The performances, the improvisations in acting and in writing too just took the show to a whole new level.

The Rolling Stone Cover

After the first season became an instant hit, the cast was on the covers of every popular magazine. When Marta Kauffman saw them on the covers of Rolling Stone magazine, she knew that they had created something great. People wanted to get Anniston haircuts and wanted to dress up as The Friends did. Even today it is broadcasted every day across more than 100 countries and the makers and the cast earn a whooping amount from the royalty.

Smelly Cat

Never have I seen a song that is more loved. But this time when Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) sings it there is a request from a fan to sit and sing with her. It is none other than Lady GaGa. They jam together but I think Phoebe still prefers to sing the song alone. I mean obviously, she is skeptical about this singer spoiling her song. Lady Gaga might be an exceptional singer but to sing Smelly Cat is no easy task!

Chandler and Monica’s London Adventure

It was earlier planned that Chandler and Monica would just have a fling. But the response of the audience was so overwhelming that the writers were forced to think about it again. It didn’t come as a shock to the audience, it was more of a pleasant surprise. It was as if the audience wanted to see them together. And so the scripts and ideas were reevaluated and improvised. And one of the most enchanting love stories was penned down for the screen.

The Greatest Guest Appearances

Friends had the most memorable guest appearances of all time. Be it Danny DeVito, Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, or Ben Stiller. And guess what, Friends The Reunion did manage to have a similar kind of surprise element. Cindy Crawford and Justin Beiber walked the ramp with iconic Friends Costumes. Malala Yousafzai, David Beckham, and Kit Harrington talked about their favorite episodes. Also, Maggie Wheeler (Janice), Tom Selleck (Richard), and James Michael Tyler (Gunther) were back on the sets, making the reunion complete.

Finally The End

As they say, all good things have to come to an end. It was hard for us and it was hard for them. The journey which lasted for a decade had to somehow end. The writers took a call that it was about time. But guess what, a phenomenon does not end. Who would have known that even after 17 years it would still find a slot and be aired on our television sets? As Mathew Perry rightly said, “The show that doesn’t go away.

Friends gave us multiple reasons to cherish our life. They were always there for us. Be it a bad workday, or a depressing phase of life, you watch an episode and suddenly you feel like life was worth living for.

They grew old. And we did too with them. “Friends” is and will always be like that gust of wind that caresses your face on a nostalgic evening, and leaves you reminiscing about the past.

Just keep a bag of tissues with you and watch Friends The Reunion on HBO Max, if you haven’t already !
